INTRODUCTION
The Philatelists Association of Thailand was one of the seven founder members of FIAP in 1974 when the late Charles Stewart was the President. At that time Thai philatelists lacked detailed information on collection, specializing and exhibiting. Bangkok ‘83 World stamp exhibition, led by Charles Stewart, was the first international stamp exhibition in Thailand, which opened the eyes of Thai collectors to the philatelic world. Despite the sudden and tragic death of Chrles Stewart during the Grand opening ceremony, the magnitude of the world philatelic event served to dazzle Thai collectors, who had never previously been exposed to the inner mechanisms of organized philately.
The working body of FIAP has enabled Thai collectors to participate in and learn from the regional philatelic body. By the time Thailand hosted its first FIAP stamp exhibition. Thai collectors were prepared for international competition. H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was the Royal Patron of the ensuing 1989 THAIPEX exhibition (the 4th FIAP Asian International Stamp Exhibition). The event marked a new era in Thai philately, which resulted in a boom in stamp collecting. New collectors become more aware of new dimensions in stamp collecting and they were to become dynamic forces of Thailand helped to propel FIAP to play a major regional and global role in international philately



GRAND POSTAL BUIDLING
In 1993 Thailand hosted its second world exhibition.
In 1993 Thailand hosted its second world exhibition. The Bangkok’93 World stamp exhibitionhas been entered in the Guinness Book of Records as having the highest attendance of any world stamp exhibition headed by the Communication Authority of Thailand and supported by FIP under the watchful eyes of FIAP had discovered a new formula for success.
It has been said that success is contagious and that was also true of Bangkok’93. Similar scenes were also witnessed in China’96 and Hong Kong’97, which were marked by unprecedented enthusiasm.


Another were in which Thai collectors have been prominent is stamp exhibiting. In recent years, fourteen Thai collectors have been awarded FIAP grand prizes, and three went on to become highly successful in FIP world competitions. They are Mr.Surajit Gongvatana, Ms.Yaovanee Nirandara, Dr.Pichai Buranasombati, Dr.Prakob Chirakiti, Mr.Phuvadol Techatewan, Mr.Boonchai Bencharongkul, Mr.Charnchai Karnasuta, Mr.Prasatporn Eksombatchai, Mr.Prakit Foonvanich, Mr.Nantawat Euarchukiati, Mr.Ayuth Krisnamara, Mr.Santpal Sinchawla, Dr.Phaophak Sirisuk, and Dr.Ukris Utensute. In addition Surajit Gongvatana, the pass FIAP president, became first exhibitor to have been awarded the three FIP Grand Prizes with GP Championship for one single collection.
In the field of judging there are also seven Thai collectors accredited as FIP International jurors in the fields of Traditional, Postal history, Thematic, Revenues, Youth and Maximaphily. Ms.Yaovanee Nirandara became one of the youngest FIP jurors in Youth philately at the age of 34 and subsequently has judged in more than 20 FIP and FIAP competitions.
The list of achievements countries, but, more importantly, the satisfaction derived from joining FIAP it undeniable to the Thais in what they have enjoyed from the Asian brotherhood. The common bloodline and the Asian cultural heritage bonded by the love of philately is what Thailand has cherished most from joining FIAP.
